Wood pellets in the world

Fibreco-transport-train

In 2005, Fibreco entered the wood pellet terminal handling business. BC’s wood pellet production has grown dramatically since that time in response to increasing demand from the European biomass market. To accommodate the new business six storage silos and a large flat storage shed have been built, resulting in storage for 45,000 tonnes of wood pellets which is equivalent to one handymax or supramax vessel.

Fibreco is the largest terminal handler of export wood pellets in the world.

BC’s wood pellets provide clean, carbon neutral, energy as an alternative to fossil fuels such as coal. Trees capture carbon as they grow. This offsets the carbon released when wood is used for fuel. Switching from coal to wood pellets reduces 100% of GHG emissions greenhouse gas emissions.

The BC wood pellet industry has provided hundreds of new jobs, significant environmental benefits, and compliments traditional forest industry products.
